Paws for Literacy® Programme (Pictures from our 11th event at the Mt Forest Library Branch, October 1, 2011) On October 1st, the Paws for Literacy" volunteers (dogs AND humans) led by Spirit Ridge's own "Koukla" (13 yrs old) and "Jesse" girl (6 years old) took the show on the road to the Mt Forest Branch of the Wellington County Library system. The library staff hosted us in a beautiful children's reading room on a gloriously sunny and beautiful day - great harbingers for what turned out to be yet another magical reading day with children, wonderful Literacy Assistance Dogs, proud parents and, of course, lots of reading! This 11th "Paws" event featured a former avid young reader (Madison) turning junior handler and helping young readers read to "her" dogs "Jesse" girl AND "Koukla" - either tag teaming or together! Madi is a very talented and versatile young handler, no doubt! Click here to view a short video clip of the event! We are grateful and indebted to the Mt Forest Branch library staff - and, in particular, Ms Lucy Kraemer, without whose help this event would not have been possible! Our NEXT Paws for Literacy Event has been scheduled for December 10th at the Elora Branch Library between 11AM and 1PM. Mark your calendars!
